Kindergarten

St. Patrick’s offers a full-day kindergarten program.  As a transitional device, kindergarten students have the option of leaving at 2:00 p.m. or at the end of the regular school day at 3:00 p.m.  The last hour of the kindergarten day features activities that enrich and supplement lessons previously learned and provide opportunities for choices.

Kindergarten represents the entry level for the majority of St. Patrick’s students.  The school’s entire curricular and programmatic sequence begins at the kindergarten level and continues through grade six.  A credentialed teacher, aided by an instructional assistant, plans and coordinates all the core learning activities - reading, language arts, math, social studies and science - for the kindergarten students.  Parents have many opportunities to volunteer in kindergarten activities and field trips.

Kindergarten students also work with all the specialist teachers and have regularly scheduled weekly classes in art, music, PE, computer and Spanish.  These enrichment classes supplement and are often coordinated with the strong foundation laid through carefully planned instruction in the homeroom setting.

The joy of learning and the natural inquisitiveness of young children is nurtured through St. Patrick’s kindergarten program, as well as the acquisition and refinement of the desired academic skills.  The kindergarten year at St. Patrick’s provides an extraordinary and wondrous learning experience for a five year old!
